‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2′ Star Stephen Amell Talks Casey Jones’ ‘Phase Of Discovery’

[ Written on December 15 2015 by admin ]

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” will feature characters that were not part of the first film, including Casey Jones.

Fans of the comic books from which the movie is based already know who the character is, but how he will be introduced in the film will be different.

Stephen Amell, who plays the character, told Screen Rant: “Just from looking at my appearance — as opposed to what comic book fans have come to expect from Casey Jones — we are meeting Casey in this movie at a very different point.”

The actor continued: “The Casey that we met in the previous live-action films was a finished product. I’m doing a completely different job [at this point the story] than I am by the end of the movie. So, I like it because it’s very much an origin story for my character. It’s certainly not the centerpiece of the movie. But for me personally, I like finding a character in a phase of discovery.”

Amell previously teased the character’s uniqueness in an interview with IGN, saying: “He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love.”

The actor continued: “He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, [and] when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they’re [a] law-abiding citizen and he’s met with laughter and scorn … he decides to take things into his own hands.”

Apart from Amell’s character, new additions to the upcoming film’s cast Shredder’s daughter Kirai (Brittany Ishibashi), Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), and Rocksteady (Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly).

The movie will also feature returning actors Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Will Arnett, Wlliam Fichtner, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, and Danny Woodburn.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” will be out in theaters June 3, 2016.

Stephen Amell talks Arrow romance, and his big Hollywood break

[ Written on October 20 2015 by admin ]

Canadian actor also appears on Reelside doc series

There’s plenty to swoon about when it comes to the long-awaited coupling of Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) on Arrow, and fans get giddy recounting highlights like their steamy night in Nanda Parbat.

But Stephen Amell likes to keep things in perspective.

“I just enjoy when there’s a storyline that’s built over the course of several seasons and then it comes to fruition,” he says. “Our writers are big believers in not teasing the audience without delivering. How long it takes is anyone’s guess. But it’s important to pay off storylines.”

In last week’s episode, the second in the DC Comics series’ fourth season, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) decided to dig up her sister and take her back to Nanda Parbat to bathe her corpse in the Lazarus Pit. Oh, and Oliver made his candidacy for mayor official.

Fans might also notice a different feel to the show and its brooding hero. While producer Marc Guggenheim has said the tone could be described as lighter, the Toronto-born actor says there’s some nuance in the remark.

“I think that our show is our show, and even if there’s a quote-unquote lighter side of Oliver, I wouldn’t even say ‘lighter’. I’d say it’s a more patient and possibly wiser version of the character,” he explains.

Amell gave insight into his onscreen persona in a recent episode of Reelside, a docuseries about Canadians in Hollywood that’s airing on Movie Central and The Movie Network. (You can still catch the episode via the cable networks’ on demand options.)

With filmmaker Matthew Lochner working on his own superhero concept, Amell joined David Hayter (X-Men) and Lloyd Kaufman (The Troma Empire) in showing cameras what it means to be a superhero, the importance of the genre’s fans and what drives them in their careers.

“In Toronto — and this was my fault, this is not a reflection of the industry – I found it difficult to string one job into another job. It’s the way you’d build any other career, like an athlete goes from A, to AA to AAA to the big leagues,” says Amell, whose cousin is fellow actor Robbie Amell.

“In California, there’s a really clear progression over the course of two years. Arrow is my 10th American job, and (over the years) you can really see them get bigger and broader and juicier.”

Before he landed Arrow, Amell was playing Scottie, a recurring paramedic on ABC’s now-defunct medical drama Private Practice. He remembers the moment he got the call for Arrow vividly.

“I was at a restaurant in Burbank, Calif., having breakfast. I’d just filmed an episode of Private Practice that morning and was heading to one of those old makeup shops in Burbank to have a prosthetic built for my next episode,” he says.

“I got the call from my manager and agent at the time, and they just said, ‘Congratulations.’ I texted my parents and Robbie, and I put the press release on Facebook and Twitter. Then I distinctly remember driving home and taking a long nap.”

Amell will star as Casey Jones in next year’s film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell. Fans might also catch him on another DC Comics series, Legends of Tomorrow, which debuts early next year on The CW and CTV. After all, Arrow and DC property The Flash crossed over extensively last season.

“I don’t know – we’ll see,” he says, when asked about a possible Legends spot.

And as for a cameo on Supergirl, yet another DC Comics show debuting Oct. 26 on CBS and Global?

“Well, never say never.”

Stephen Amell Says CW DC Series Are “Basically One Show”

[ Written on September 30 2015 by admin ]

In a sixteen minute live Q&A on facebook, Stephen Amell talked a bit about the new season of Arrow, and what to expect. But first, with the DC Universe on The CW growing to three series this year, fans were wondering about how much crossover there’d be between them.

“It’s basically one show,” Amell said of Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Arrow. “The universe now, as it exists, is basically one show.” That seems to indicate there will be a lot of crossover in and out, but the traditional mid-season crossover is coming, too. Amell said they just wrapped episode 407 (directed by fight choreographer James Bamford, so expect some big action there), and were “ramping up to the crossover with The Flash.”

As for Supergirl, Amell is game, but cautioned he doesn’t know about the ins and outs of a cross-network crossover. “Nothing is ever impossible, but I certainly don’t think anything is planned.”

Arrow Will Dive Into The Green Arrow Storyline During The Season 4 Premiere

[ Written on August 21 2015 by admin ]

Oliver Queen’s life as The Arrow is no more. When he returns to Star City (yeah, that’s right) for Arrow Season 4, he will finally embrace his comic book destiny and become Green Arrow. With the name change will also come a new costume, but what’s still unclear is how exactly Oliver will decide to take on this new identity. Fortunately, instead of being dragged out for several episodes, that question will quickly be answered right when Season 4 kicks off.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Green Arrow TV that Arrow will tackle why Oliver shifts personas in the Season 4 premiere, and much of it is due to a big event from the latter half of Season 3. Guggenheim said:

That’s definitely the thesis statement of episode 401, the season premiere. He can’t be the Arrow anymore, because everyone believes that Roy Harper was the Arrow, and Roy Harper is dead, at least as far as everyone believes. So, he had to adopt a new identity. All of this is explained in the season premiere; we come straight out with it.

For those that need a refresher, after Oliver was outed as The Arrow and was arrested by Quentin Lance in “Public Enemy,” Roy decided to take the fall and unmasked himself as the green-garbed archer (rather than as Arsenal) in front of a large crowd. Thus, Oliver was in the clear and Roy was sent to prison instead, where his death was later faked and he started his life anew. So to almost everyone in Star City, The Arrow is gone. However, if Oliver were to resume his activities as The Arrow, people would realize that he was the vigilante the whole time, making it necessary for him to change his superhero handle.

While Oliver’s method of taking down criminals will largely be the same in Season 4, it’s possible that as Green Arrow, his demeanor may change compared to his time as The Hood/Arrow. Perhaps we’ll finally see him acting closer to his comic book counterpart; i.e. still tough, but also more light-hearted. That would also help with making sure bystanders and criminals don’t connect the dots between him and The Arrow…aside from them sharing the same archer theme.

Of course, Oliver won’t be the only crimefighter rocking a new identity. Guggenheim also mentioned that John Diggle will indeed be given an (approved by DC) codename to go along with his new uniform. While he wouldn’t reveal what this codename will be, he did rule out one common guess: Guardian, who in the comics is actually the uncle of Roy Harper. Whatever his name ends up being, Diggle will still be fighting in the streets alongside Oliver and the rest of Team Arrow. So it’s still business as usual aside from the new wardrobes.

Arrow Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7 in its normal timeslot on The CW.

Oliver Gets a Heroic New Look

[ Written on July 13 2015 by admin ]

The Arrow is getting a makeover. Oliver Gets a Heroic New Look

A new suit for the titular character was revealed at Arrow‘s Comic-Con panel on Saturday night.

Star Stephen Amell — who came out in his new “Green Arrow” duds — gave credit to Maya Mani, who has “made every single suit on our show since the original Arrow costume,” he said. “She nailed it.”

The new getup signals a big transformation for the titular hero. “We’ve always said the progression for Oliver is very much from the Arrow to Green Arrow,” executive producer Greg Berlanti described. “This is first real stop in that direction.”

With that evolution also comes a new attitude, although “the show isn’t going to suddenly become a comedy,” EP Andrew Kreisberg said. “When the season starts, he’s in much a better place. He’s happy. He’s in love. That feeling infuses all the characters. There’s a little bit more fun [and] more humor.”

Added EP Wendy Mericle: “We actually get to have Oliver make some jokes in the lair, which is a first,” and get to see what it’s like to have him in a relationship.
