‘Suits L.A.’ Gets Series Order

[ Written on July 19 2024 by Admin ]

“Suits: L.A.,” led by Stephen Amell, has received a series order pickup by NBC.

NBC is officially going to court with Suits: L.A., handing the Stephen Amell-starring spinoff a series order. A network rep tells TVLine that it has not yet been determined if the offshoot will air as soon as midseason or be held for the 2025-26 season.

Set in the world of the original USA Network drama, the project follows a brand new character, Ted Black (played by Arrow vet Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York who “has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles,” per the official synopsis.

“His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career,” the description continues. “Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”

The Walking Dead alum Josh McDermitt stars opposite Amell as Stuart Lane, who joined up with his buddy Ted Black to build an L.A. firm. Rounding out the series-regular cast are Lex Scott Davis (The L Word: Generation Q) as Erica Rollins, a savvy and strong-willed rising star at the firm, and Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill) as Rick Dodsen, Ted Black’s protégé in the entertainment division.

Additionally, Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and Troy Winbush (The Goldbergs, The Wilds) guest-star in the pilot (with the potential to recur). Lee plays Leah, a young associate attorney who has been assigned to work with (or, as it turns out, for) entertainment attorney Erica Rollins. Winbush, meanwhile, is Ted’s old friend and ex-partner, Kevin, who is a former FBI agent-turned-private detective.

Stephen Amell To Lead NBC Drama Pilot ‘Suits L.A.’

[ Written on February 14 2024 by Admin ]

Stephen Amell is suiting up. The actor will lead NBC’s upcoming “Suits” spinoff, “Suits: LA.”

DEADLINE: Arrow star Stephen Amell is set as the lead in NBC drama pilot Suits L.A., a new extension of the Suits universe from Aaron Korsh, creator and writer of the original series. Production is scheduled to start in late March in Vancouver.

Suits L.A. centers on Ted Black (Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.

Amell’s Ted Black is described as a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others. Fifteen years ago, the former New York prosecutor joined forces with his old buddy, Stuart Lane, to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.

Suits: L.A. is not be a reboot or revival but a brand extension in the vein of the CSI and NCIS franchises featuring new characters in a new location.

Korsh executive produces alongside David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein, who were EPs with him on the original series. Victoria Mahoney directs and executive produces the pilot. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

Amell, best known for the lead role of Oliver Queen on CW’s Arrow, most recently starred in Starz’s hit wrestling drama series Heels. He’ll next be seen in the Netflix film Code 8: Part II, which he also produced.

He is repped by UTA, Leverage Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

‘Heels’ Cancelled

[ Written on September 27 2023 by Admin ]

The bell has officially rung for the Duffy Wrestling League. After just wrapping up its second season on Starz earlier this month, Variety exclusively reported that the hit wrestling drama Heels has been canceled at the network. Following a small-town independent wrestling promotion trying to take it to the next level professionally, the series starred Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as brothers Jack and Ace Spade. It’s one of four series Starz scrapped today, including Blindspotting, Run the World, and The Venery of Samantha Bird which had yet to air its first season.

UPDATE: EW – The news was particularly painful for Heels’ small but devoted following of viewers, coming as it did just 10 days after the intense season 2 finale. “High Flying” followed Amell’s Jack Spade and his Duffy Wrestling League promotion as they put on a “Harmageddon” show in the hopes of landing a major deal with a streaming platform called Continuum. In the main event, Jack faced off in a match against the Condamned, a character played by his brother, Ace (Alexander Ludwig). He executed a dangerous flying leap into the ring — and ended up catastrophically injured, with no feeling in his legs.

But Jack and the DWL may not be down for the count just yet. Now that the Hollywood writers’ strike has ended, showrunner Mike O’Malley says he and his team are “actively” shopping the show around to other networks. “I really do think it’s going to have a life someplace else,” says O’Malley, who also appears on the show as Charlie Gully, the flamboyant promoter of the rival Florida Wrestling Dystopia league. “We did not intend, nor do we intend, for [the season 2 finale] to be the last episode of the show.”
